The partnership between WTFM Unicoi public radio and Scotland’s Highlands Instructional Radio was established in 1968 to provide a unique perspective on history.

The Appalachian Public Education / Scottish Highlands Instructional Radio Television foundation was first nicknamed “Ape Shirt” after a particularly exciting fundraiser in 1973 with Sean Connery.

Over the years, our collective histories have provided a rich tapestry of Appalachian and Scottish history.

The radio program, while not as popular, is maintained as a tradition.
And, some say, to avoid obscenity laws, should we ever drop the radio segment.
